The Philippine Taekwondo Team in the 30th SEA Games; Its History and the Pioneers in The Philippines
Introduced in the Philippines through the efforts of Kim Bok Man and Young Man Park in 1970, Park’s legacy of propagating Taekwondo upon the invitation of President Marcos.
While Taekwondo became popular worldwide, in 1971 the sport became dormant when Park left the Philippines.
In 1975, Sung-Chon Hong came to the Philippines to continue to re-introduce Taekwondo to aspiring Athletes.
The Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) has been established by Grand Master Sung-Chon Hong.
The current Central Headquarters of the PTA is at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
The PTA is a member of the Kukkiwon, World Taekwondo Federation, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee and Asian Taekwondo Union.
Sung-Chon Hong has devoted decades to mentoring, developing and promoting Taekwondo nationwide and worldwide, and is popularly considered the Father of Taekwondo in the Philippines.

- Paul Cabatingan — First Batch member and organizer of Taekwondo Blackbelt Brotherhood (TBB)
- Arch. Elmer Pato -Chairman at Eljan Ventures Inc.(First professional manufacturer of Taekwondo Apparel in the Philippines). Bronze Medalist in 1976 Asian Championships-Melbourne, Australia.
- Monsour del Rosario — Ranked №1 in the Philippines from 1982–1989, Ranked №1 in Southeast Asia in 1989 (Gold Medalist 15th SEA Games,
- Ranked №1 in Southeast Asia Lightweight Division in 1987 (Gold Medalist 14th SEA Games) Ranked 2nd Best in Asia in 1986 (Silver Medalist in the 1986 10th Asian Games, Seoul, Korea) Ranked 3rd Best In the World in 1985 (Bronze Medalist in the 1985 7th World TKD Championships in Seoul, Korea) 4th Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo (Lightweight Division) Quarter finalist at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games
