Cultural Center of the Philippines Releases list of Luminaries for the Order of National Artists 2021 (Nominations)
Manila- The Order of National Artists (Orden ng mga Pambansang Alagad ng Sining) the highest national recognition given to Filipino individuals who significantly contributed to the development of Philippine arts, such as: Music, Dance, Theater,Visual Arts, Fashion, Literature, Film, Broadcast Arts, Architecture and the Allied Arts.
The order is administered by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) conferred by the President of the Philippines upon recommendation by both institutions.
This year the two institutions released the nominees of Luminaries from the 7 field of the arts;
The contenders for the National Artists are:
Eddie Garcia, German Moreno, Ramon Revilla for the Posthumous Awards nominations.
Eddie Garcia & Ramon Revilla Sr. are both multi-awarded actors, film directors and producers appearing in hundreds of motion pictures and television shows in their lifetime.
Vilma Santos, dubbed as “Star for All Seasons,” is a multi awarded veteran star in hundreds of motion pictures since she was nine years old, she is serving as a congresswoman for Batangas.
Pitoy Moreno, for fashion design labeled as the “Fashion Czar of Asia.”
Also included in the lists are:
Joey Ayala, Isagani Cruz, Ligaya Amilbangsa, Raul Sunico, Cecille Alvarez, Shirley Halili-Cruz, Nicanor Tiongson, Nemensio Miranda and Nonoy Marcelo.
Nicanor Tiongson Sunico, an award-winning pianist and former CCP President, was also former dean of UST Conservatory of Music.
Painter and sculptor Nemensio Miranda from Angono, Rizal while Tiongson is a top art critic, creative writer and academician.
Shirley Halili-Cruz, Isagani Cruz and Ligaya Amilbangsa are recognized as outstanding Filipino awardees in culture and the arts. Halili-Cruz, a multi-awarded and world-class dance director and educator, is the founder and artistic director of numerous national and international projects that keep dance always dynamic, a TOFIL (The Outstanding Filipino) awardee In Arts and Culture. Isagani Cruz, also a TOFIL awardee, is a writer and art critic & lover of narratives has produced plays, biographies and short stories, most of them prize-winning.
Ligaya Amilbangsa is a Filipino dancer, known for her studies and promotion of the Pangalay Dance tradition of the Southern Philippines, and also a recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award.
Nonoy Marcelo, passed away in 2002, was nominated as National Artist for Visual Arts, a cartoonist for various newspapers and tabloids before and after Martial Law and CCP’s Centennial Artists awardees In 1998.
Joey Ayala, a guitarist who wrote alternative songs and became a game changer in the field of music back in the 1990s.
